British Superbike veteran Chris Walker made a shock announcement this week that he is to compete in the Hyundai Heavy Industries British Sidecar Championship in association with Molson.
The BSB runner up will make his three-wheeled racing debut in May at Oulton Park, giving him plenty of time to get his skills up to standard. Walker has explained it’s now time to give younger riders more chances to race, but he couldn’t leave the BSB paddock just yet.
Following his abrupt end to 2015, the former Kawasaki rider vowed to return to the racing scene for another season, but not many could have predicted it would be aboard a sidecar: “The BSB paddock feels like my home and so I am really excited by this completely new challenge, especially as the British Sidecar Championship is going from strength to strength. I have no knowledge of it so I am full of anticipation, although I have to say it is still a bit daunting!
Milwaukee Yamaha’s Josh Brookes secured the British Superbike crown for the first time this weekend following a stunning season a solid victory at the Brands Hatch Finale weekend.
Race one of the weekend saw the 2015 title wrapped up as Brookes secured the victory in an intense battle, mirroring the season as a whole.
Reigning champion and title rival Shane Byrne took the lead on the opening lap and was closely stalked by the Australian in the early stages of the race, and despite almost losing his chances on lap eight, Brookes made the move on lap 14 to secure the win and the championship with Byrne having to settle for second place.
John Hopkins secured the final trophy with his first podium for Lloyds British Moto Rapido Ducati, followed by Bennetts Suzuki’s Christian Iddon in fourth as Buildbase BMW’s Lee Jackson was able to get his career best of fifth place. Continue reading “BSB Brands: Brookes crowned champion”
