After a gloomy start to the day, the sun came out to see in round 3 of the World Superbike Championship at MotorLand Aragón. Davies, who  was in his element once again at Aragón, topped the time sheets in FP1. The Ducati rider is only one point shy off Marco Melandri in becoming the most successful WorldSBK rider at MotorLand.

Honda’s Nicky Hayden showed progress in FP1 finishing the first hour on track the 2nd fastest, proving he is settling into the championship. His teammate, Michael van der Mark rounded off the top three in the opening session.

However, it was all change as Kawasaki Racing’s Tom Sykes stepped up the pace as the FP2 clock counted down. Davies couldn’t match Sykes’ time of 1’50.712 and concluded day one in second. Again van der Mark remained third in the closing session.

The reigning champion, Jonathan Rea, had a tough day unable to gel with changes to his bike, and finished 6th. Fellow Brits Leon Camier concluded the sessions 8th and Alex Lowes completed the top 10.
