After FP2 in Burinam, Thailand, the Honda of Michael van der Mark finished the session fastest as the second round of the World Superbike Championship got underway in the early hours of this morning.

However, in the opening practice session it was a totally different picture as Brit, Leon Camier, was topping the time sheets on his MV Agusta Repartee Corse with an impressive 1’36.047 lap making him the man to beat.

Nicky Hayden (Honda WorldSBK Team) was just under three tenths of a second slower with reigning World Superbike Champion and championship leader, Jonathan Rea aboard his Kawasaki Racing Team ZX10R just behind the American. With Michael van der Mark and Tom Sykes in fourth and fifth place.

As the second session began though the order was to change, with van der Mark stepping up the pace as the clock for FP2 counted down. His time of 1’34.770 couldn’t be matched despite the best efforts of the rest of the chasing pack, but it wasn’t the KRT team following behind.

A very impressive lap from Pata Yamaha’s Sylvain Guintoli thrust him into second place with Jordi Torres on his Althea BMW coming in third. The accolade of fastest Brit goes to Alex Lowes as the former BSB Champ brought the second Pata Yamaha over the line in the fourth quickest time. Rea made up the top five 0.685 behind the fastest lap, the Honda of Nicky Hayden behind him in sixth place, followed by Tom Sykes, Chaz Davies, Davide Giugliano and the BMW of Markus Reiterberger in tenth place whose lap time was within 0.869 van der Mark.
