SKY Racing Team VR46 rider Romano Fenati topped the timesheet at the end of day two of testing for the Moto3 riders in Jerez today.
The Italian heads a group of riders who all sit within 0.2 seconds of each other in Spain as they all prepare for the season opener in a few weeks time in Qatar. Early in the day it was clear that there would be much of an improvement on times from day one as the track wasn’t at it’s most adhesive, with John McFee of Peugeot MC Saxoprint going down in the opening session which forced the Scot to miss the second session of the day.
But as the weather and track conditions improved so did the times with Fenati setting the fastest time over the two days of the test, but only just. The SKY Racing Team VR46 rider’s best time was just over 0.1 seconds faster than the time set by his teammate, Nicolo Bulega, on Wednesday. Fenati’s lap was a 1’46.445, which couldn’t be matched by Estrella Galicia 0,0 rider, Jorge Navarro, who recorded a lap time of 1’46.505 with Ongetta-Rivacold’s Niccola Antonelli trailing by just 0.105s from Fenati to come home with the third fastest time.
The aforementioned Bulega raced over the line in 1’46.600 and in fifth place was Red Bull KTM rider, Brad Binder, on his new machine from the Austrian manufacturer and he will have been impressed by making up half a second on the previous day’s time ending the second session with a lap time of 1’46.626.
