Recently crowned MotoGP World Champion Jorge Lorenzo had a tough time celebrating at his homecoming this week, as his replica YZR-M1 caused second degree burns on his leg.

As the 28 year old prepared to ride the bike in-front of his adoring fans it appears a radiator pipe hose came loose, which resulted in boiling fluid spurting out onto the champion.

The setback didn’t stop Lorenzo from attending the ceremony in Mallorca however, as he was quickly bandaged up and went on to address his home town.

Injuries the Mallorcan sustained from the accident has forced him to pull out of the Race of Champions which takes place in London next week.

“I really hoped it would heal by now but due to potential complications from sweating inside the overalls, the doctors have forbidden me to do it, explained Lorenzo.I know I would have had great fans supporting me in London so I’m sorry to be missing it. Now I will try as hard as possible to be back at the Race Of Champions next year instead.”
