At his first visit to the Italian circuit, Kennedy finished this morning’s free practice session in 8th. In qualifying this afternoon the Irishman found himself around the top ten mark for the first half of the session but after a swift tyre change in the final ten minutes before the chequered flag, the former British Supersport runner-up found himself lapping at a pace in amongst the likes of Fabian Foret and Sheridan Morais and finishing ahead of last year’s champion, Kenan Sofuoglu.
Kennedy, on the back of an equal best race finish of 6th in Portugal, sits just a tenth of a second off provisional second row and importantly roughly nine tenths off second position with another day of track time ahead to get to grips with the undulating nature of the Imola circuit. “What a great first day. The team have done a great job, they have worked a lot of hours to get us ready and able to fight for this position so full credit to them. I have really clicked with Imola and I am enjoying riding the Rivamoto Honda here. We went the right way with set-up which has helped. We will try a couple of things in free practice tomorrow and fight to improve in final qualifying.”
