Cloudy skies greeted the MotoGP paddock for the second official IRTA test of 2013 at Catalunya, with all eyes on the returning Suzuki team who rolled out their 2013 test bike for the first time in an official test. Sunday’s race winner Jorge Lorenzo finished the

day on top setting a time of 1.41.904, just 0.051s ahead of Ducati’s factory rider Nicky Hayden in second.
Repsol Honda and Go&Fun Gresini were the only teams not at the test, meaning there was just 19 riders out on track. The Yamaha Factory team were both present, with reigning champion Lorenzo testing a new fuel tank and Valentino Rossi working on securing a better front end feeling on his M1. The Italian rounded out the day in sixth, 0.609 behind his team-mate despite crashing out just before 4pm. Lone Honda rider Stefan Bradl finished the day in third for the LCR team, 0.323s back of Lorenzo’s time. Ducati seemed to have a strong test at the Catalan track, running back-to-back comparisons with the GP13 and Lab bike; both factory riders finished in the top four and the satellite riders in the top 11. Monster Yamaha Tech 3 had a productive day, with Crutchlow finishing 0.558 off the fastest time and Smith finishing in the top 10 despite his day being cut short as he heads to hospital to have a skin graft on the little finger he injured in Mugello two weeks ago.
After months of rumour and intrigue, Suzuki unveiled their 2013 bike this morning following a test at Twin Ring Motegi back in May. Nobuatsu Aoki was the first rider to go out on the bike before Aspar CRT rider Randy De Puniet took over for the remainder of the session. It was announced today that after two years out of the MotoGP World Championship, Suzuki will re-enter in 2015 following two more years of developing the bike with on-going tests both in and outside of Japan. De Puniet proved the bike was already competitive by setting lap times just 0.772 off the fastest lap time set by Lorenzo.
Testing will resume for both the Yamaha Factory Team and Suzuki, who are joining Repsol Honda at Aragon from Tuesday.
