Despite his sixth place qualifying position, home hero Valentino Rossi was upbeat about his chances for tomorrows Italian MotoGP race.

The nine-time world champion unveiled his traditional ‘Mugello Special’ AGV helmet, a take on his tartaruga tattoo, during the mornings FP3 session hoping it would bring him more luck than in recent years but unfortunately for Rossi he got caught in traffic in the fraught 15 minute Q2 session and was unable to replicate his second position of yesterdays FP2.
Third place during the session was as high as the crowd favourite made it before being pushed back down the order to seventh, after setting a strong time of 1:47.872s, in an incredible last 30 seconds of the session but afterwards, like others, complained of riders taking a tow from the faster men to better their time.
Not one to be downbeat, Rossi was in bouyant mood when asked about his chances for tomorrows race, he said “The practices are not so bad because we have a good pace for the race which is important. As always in the qualifying we suffer more than the others. They use the slipstream of the others and are able to go a bit faster than me. Unfortunately I have to start on the third row but I’m quite happy because my pace is quite good so I think with a good start I can do a good race. We will see tomorrow.”
