put in a sensational lap at the end of the 15 minute Q2 session to take pole position with lap record breaking pace.
It wasn’t looking too good for Pedrosa throughout the 15 minute session, not finding himself above 6th until the last-lap dash for pole. The little Spaniard showed signs of annoyance towards the end of the session after it appeared many riders were waiting around to be picked up for a tow around the Italian circuit – at one point Pedrosa showed clear frustration by shaking his fist at Andrea Dovizioso.
It looked as though Jorge Lorenzo would be on pole position after so far dominating the weekend, however Pedrosa’s last lap of 1’47.157 put the Catalonian ahead of the Mallorcan by just over a tenth, clinching the lap record in the process.
“Today the track conditions were good, the tyres worked well and we improved the bike.” Pedrosa commented. “All this helped us a lot to increase our pace and this is the most important thing. Qualifying was difficult, because we were behind for a large part of the session, but we managed a great last lap and took pole. Now we have some ideas to improve the bike for tomorrow and hope to have a strong race”
