Aprilia Racing Team’s Eugene Laverty qualified on the front row of the grid for the 9th consecutive time in Superpole this afternoon at Donington Park. The Irishman finished the final session of Superpole just three tenths behind his team mate Guintoli with a time of 1m 28.014s.

Laverty came into the weekend somewhat apprehensively, given that he has never been on the podium at the East Midlands circuit in the Superbike class. The winner of the second race at Monza last time out got his weekend off to a steady start, finishing 9th in both qualifying practice sessions while testing various tyre options on his RSV4 Aprilia.
However, the ex-250GP rider upped his game for Superpole, sitting right behind his team mate throughout the three sessions. He managed to save his final soft rear tyre option for SP3, allowing him to place his Aprilia firmly on the front row in the final minutes of the session. “I’m really happy to be here on the front row because around this circuit there are at least five fast riders with a similar race pace. So it’s very important to start from the front row, especially since the characteristics of this track make overtaking quite difficult. I’m also happy to keep up my Superpole streak. It’s a great sign of consistency and it is a good indicator of the shape my RSV4 and I are in”.
