Aprilia Racing Team’s Sylvain Guintoli will start his home-from-home race at Donington Park from second position on the grid, securing his best Superpole result aboard his Aprilia.

Sunny skies greeted the World Superbike riders at the Leicestershire circuit for qualifying and Guintoli moved through Superpole 1 and 2 with ease; the Frenchman was left with qualifying tyres for the final shoot-out for the first three rows. Following small mistakes made by the 30 year old on his flying lap, he set a time of 1.27.716 which secured him second place on the grid, 0.338 off Sykes’ lap-record breaking times.
World championship leader Guintoli said “I pushed hard out there in the last Superpole session. I had a good feeling and I knew I could do well. Unfortunately in my fast lap I made a few small mistakes in the last two sectors which cost me a few tenths of a second, but I think even with a perfect lap it would have been very difficult to take the pole from Sykes the specialist. Starting from the front row is important, especially here, and it’s good to see that the Aprilia is fast even on a small track like Donington”.
