Pata Honda rider Jonathan Rea has finished the opening free practice at Monza on the top of the timing sheets, 0.245 seconds ahead of Ayrton Badovini.

Wet conditions hindered the riders at the Italian circuit, with the times being 30 seconds slower than times in the dry, with only 17 riders venturing out on track. Irishman Jonathan Rea was the first man to set the fastest lap, only to be challenged by Loris Baz, Eugene Laverty, Jules Cluzel and Tom Sykes. He set the time of 2.05.912 with half an hour of the session to go and couldn’t be knocked off the top spot.

Tom Sykes rounded out the top three, ahead of Leon Haslam’s replacement Kousuke Akiyoshi, who was only 0.686 seconds off teammate Rea’s time. Fixi Cresent Suzuki rider Jules Cluzel only did three laps of the circuit but sat in fifth, ahead of Eugene Laverty and Loris Baz. Two time Aragon race winner Chaz Davies finished the session in 8th ahead of injured Leon Camier in ninth and Marco Melandri in tenth.

Qualifying session one starts at half past two, and you can find a full list of results here.
