Milwaukee Yamaha’s James Ellison was the first rider to set a sub 1.36 time at Oulton Park in free practice three this afternoon ahead of championship leader Shane Byrne.
British Superbike’s most successful rider ever ‘Shakey’ Byrne set the early pace in free practice three, with a time of 1.36.458 and was the first rider to reach the 100mph mark. He was shortly followed by Alex Lowes, James Ellison and Josh Brookes, who were covered by just 0.667 of a second. The weekend was improving for returning Ryuichi Kiyonari who moved up into ninth position, and was lapping two seconds faster than he was on Saturday.
At a circuit he visited in 2012 aboard a Tyco Suzuki, New Yorker PJ Jacobsen finished FP3 in 20th position, 3.425 second off Ellison’s time. In the closing minutes of free practice, Ellison stormed into first position from fourth and set a time of 1.35.707 and became the first rider to set a sub 1.36 time. Byrne failed to respond and finished 0.304 behind Ellison.
Lowes, Kirkham, Brookes and Bridewell completed the top six, and were all within one second of Ellison’s time.
