Tyco Suzuki riders Josh Brookes and PJ Jacobsen will be looking to progress from the first two rounds of the 2013 British Superbike Championship this weekend, in Oulton Park, Cheshire.
Aussie rider, Josh Brookes narrowly missed out on a race win last month at Thruxton, following an intense battle with Shane Byrne in race one. The red flag on lap 13 of race two put a stop to his chances of a consecutive podium, ending up finishing just behind Milwaukee Yamaha’s James Ellison, in 4th.
Last year, Brookes scored a double podium at the Cheshire circuit and is hoping to take a step up on the box this time around. “Oulton is a complete contrast to both Brands Indy and Thruxton, but as I’ve said before, I don’t get too hung up on what circuit we are at and whether I like them or not – as I have to race and perform at them all if I want to win the championship. Last year we were strong at Oulton with five podiums over the two rounds there, but took no wins, so that’s the goal this weekend – consistency and a top step or two is what we are after.”
Team mate, PJ Jacobsen is making a return visit to Oulton. After competing at the track last year on a STK1000 GSXR, Jacobsen told PaddockChatter.com at Thruxton that he was looking forward to the round, and that “it should be good to go to a track I actually know”. The American has made good progression throughout his debut season in BSB so far: “It’s good to be back racing this weekend and Oulton Park was certainly a fun round last year on the Superstock bike. The Superbike will be a whole new proposition around there, but I’m looking forward to it. I’m making progress all the time, both on and off the bike and this past two weeks has given me a chance to look over data and discuss things with the team. I’m not making any predictions but we’ll be giving it our all on Sunday and Monday.”
