After a brace of hard-fought fifth places in the opening rounds of the BSB support class on his Steve Patrickson-prepared Honda SP125 and lying second in the GP125 Championship, it was clear that a decision had to be made to ensure the Red Bull Rookie contender had the best possible opportunity to secure a career best MotoStar Championship finish whilst maximising his potential in the prestigious MotoGP support series, the Red Bull Rookies Cup.
After his first test on the RBR KTM Moto3 bike at Jerez in March, the 15 year old immediately gelled with the slightly larger motorcycle and immediately felt comfortable, instantly showing his potential with the new machine by posting the seventh quickest time overall.
Jordan, dad Colin and the whole family would like to express their sincere thanks to Steve Patrickson for his invaluable help since they arrived from South Africa and their deep gratitude for the friendship, mentoring and managing of Jordan. All of this made the decision very difficult and would like to wish Steve and his team all the very best for the future.
Jordan said ‘’I am very sad to be moving from SP125 to Moto3. Steve Patrickson, you will always be my friend, mentor and hero. I know we will stay close and your offer to still help set up the bike for me is much appreciated, even though it’s a 4-stroke. I will buy you a set of earplugs and you can pretend it’s a 125! Steve, in short, thanks so much for everything.’’
Jordanracing Burkert will debut their Factory KTM at Round 5 at Snetterton 300 in Norfolk 5-7 July 2013.
