|First podium of 2013 for Baz
French youngster Loris Baz had almost a coming of age in Assen at round three of the World Superbike Championship this weekend. The MAHI Kawasaki rider secured a fantastic podium in race two to back up his, at that point, equal best finish of the season of fifth in race 1.
Unfortunately for the former European STK600 Champion, Baz got baulked heavily on the opening lap of the first race and immediately lost touch with the leading contenders, such was the pace of the front group of riders eventually securing fifth place for the team.
Race two put Baz firmly on the map in WSB for 2013 with a mature ride to take deserved third place under intense pressure from the challengers around him, all hungry for that last podium place.
A very happy Baz said “The last lap was just too long for me because I wanted to get it finished. We went top five and then onto the podium today in dry conditions so I just want to thank all the team and the people in Kawasaki who have made a good job on this bike to make it better for my style and my weight. I thought my pace was good enough to fight in the group ahead of me in race one but I do not know what happened because I had no grip in the rear right at the start so maybe I did not warm the tyre enough. It was strange and it has never happened before, so I lost one or two second and that was already too much to come back. But to finish P5 was good and my pace was strong, as we saw in race two when I got away better.”
