BSB: Byrne claims pole position for first race of the season

Reigning champion Shane Byrne has claimed pole position ahead of the opening race of 2013 at Brands Hatch.

With the sun shining, riders came out for Q1 which was topped by Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki rider Byrne, Samsung Honda teammates Sam Lowes and Ryuchi Kiyonari finished second and third, ahead Tyco Suzuki rider Josh Brookes in fourth. 
Brighter conditions continued for Q2 which brought Byrne’s teammate Keith Farmer flew to the top of the timing sheets ahead of Byrne, Sam Lowes, James Ellison and James Westmoreland. 
The final eight minutes of qualifying brought Q3 and excitement ensued. The top ten were setting fastest lap after fastest lap and the pressure was on for the crucial front row spot. 
Cool and collected Byrne shot up into pole position with three minutes left in the session with a 45.655, finishing in front of Alex Lowes who is the top Samsung Honda rider and only 0.142 behind Byrne with Kiyonari qualifying in seventh. 
Returning James Ellison secured third position on the grid on his Milwaukee Yamaha setting a time of 45.970, with Buildbase BMW rider John Kirham rounding out the front row.
Keith Farmer, Byrne’s teammate heads the second row in front of Josh Brookes on the first Tyco Suzuki.
