Despite Repsol Honda’s Dani Pedrosa starting where he left off in Sepang, on top there are airs of frustration in team release, mainly due to the track conditions not being good enough for the team to show their true speed. As you may know, the weather in Sepang is somewhat unpredictable and there are often gigantic thunderstorms and rain showers, the MotoGP test begins after several days of showers leaving the Sepang International Circuit dirty and slippery, meaning the MotoGP times from today were 1.5 seconds off the pace from when they were out at the start of the month. Rain caused issue this afternoon in Sepang.

It’s hard not to note the frustration in the riders interviews, both Pedrosa and Marquez to move as far ahead in their testing schedule as possible to ensure they have the most competitive package upon arrival in Qatar in just over a month.

Pedrosa, who topped the time sheets after spending the morning working on suspension and engine mapping, particularly in corner entry had this to say:

“Today we continued trying things out with the bike here in Sepang, focusing most of all on suspension. We also worked a little on the electronics. The track wasn’t 100% after the rainfall from the past few days, but we were able to ride well. In the afternoon it rained again, and we used this to perform some laps in the wet. Tomorrow we will continue with the work that we have scheduled”

Marquez who was third, spent the day testing set up but was hampered by the track conditions and rain. He suffered a slow speed fall earlier however was able to ride back to the pits with minimal damage to his RC213V. “Today went pretty well. It’s just a shame that the track was so slippery, because we weren’t able to collect all the data that we wanted due to the times not being so fast. We were not able to ride a lot in the afternoon either, because as soon as we got on the pace it started to rain and we aborted the session. We hope that the surface is better tomorrow, with more grip and less rain. Our aim is to be able to put in laps, gain experience and test out a lot of things that we have pending”
