Pedrosa tops first day in Sepang… just

It wasn’t all singing, all dancing for the new Ducati recruits…

Dani Pedrosa has topped the first day of MotoGP testing in Sepang by just 0.008sec off Jorge Lorenzo, with Marquez only a further 0.044sec further back. Valentino Rossi is closer than he’s been in 2 years and just under half a second off the Spaniard’s fastest time; considering it’s the first time he’s ridden the 1000cc M1 in the dry, I’d be quite happy.

Stefan Bradl was a further two tenths back from the doctor on his factory-spec RC213V with Cal Crutchlow in 6th, followed by Bautista. Bradley Smith in his dry MotoGP debut was 2.3 seconds off the pace and faster than new Ducati recruit Andrea Dovizioso.

Espargaró was fastest of the CRTs and 2.4 seconds off the lead followed by team mate de Puniet, however faster than both Pramac Ducati riders Iannonne and Spies, who found themselves lapping three seconds slower than Pedrosa’s fastest time. Spies still claims his shoulder injury is not 100%.

Barbera was third in the CRT category followed by PBM newbie Hernandez and former Ducati man Abraham. Britain’s Michael Laverty had a positive first day finishing in 25th ahead of Pesek, Staring and Edwards.

Testing continues tomorrow. Times below.
