Scottish ace Kev Coghlan has moved to the World Supersport for 2013 after his Ducati Manchester Corse team merged with 2012 WSS champions, Lorenzini Kawasaki.
Coghlan spent last year in the STK1000 championship on a Ducati Panigale with the Ducati Manchester Corse team, achieving a second place at Nurburgring and an overall championship position of 9th. This year, Kev will be on a factory supported Kawasaki ZX-6R challenging for podiums on a more regular basis.
Alexey Ivanov, who was Coghlan’s team mate with the DMC squad at the end of last year, will be campaigning on a ZX-6R in the STK600 championship this year. Vladimir Ivanov, the 2012 Russian SBK champion, will partner Kev in WSS. It is hoped by WSBK organisers that these 2 will ideally increase the spectator volume at the Russian World Superbike round in July.
Coghlan, who was the 2009 CEV (Spanish) Supersport champion, also has experience in Moto2 and BSS. Therefore the team, with good reasoning, should have high hopes for his potential this year.
He will not be the only representative of the UK in WSS though, Christian Iddon will be on an MV Agusta with Chaz Davies’ old team ParkinGO. Sam Lowes will be returning for a 3rd year with Russian Squad, Yakhnick Yamaha. Whilst Irishman and 2012 BSS runner up Jack Kennedy will be on the Rivamoto Honda. A strong showing from our ‘home grown’ racers…
