Steve Moore’s MotoRapido Ducati will continue to increase the European presence in British Superbikes next season as they sign Italian Superbike Champion and former World Superbike rider Mattao Baiocco to pilot their Ducati 1199R Panigale in BSB next season.
Baiocco worked for the team at Silverstone last year in replacement of injured Abdullaziz Bin Laden and is the official Ducati Panigale test rider, so has plenty of experience on the bike that didn’t make the best of debuts in BSB underneath Scott Smart and BinLaden through a plethora of technical issues and crashes. Steve Moore had showed signs of frustration with 2012 and at one point questioned whether he’d bring the MotoRapido squad back for 2013, however last week an announcement was made that the team would be returning, with new bikes and new riders.
The bike, the updated version of the Panigale, the 1199R however it looks like Baiocco may be Moore’s only rider in the Superbike class for 2013. It would seem that Moore’s announcement of “new riders” could elude to MotoRapido running in more than 1 class for 2013, as he hinted on twitter in response to speculation. MotoRapido’s Panigale is currently the only Bologna twin on the grid although rumour has it Martin Jessopp will be returning upon a Ducati or BMW…
