Smrz and Aitchison re-sign for Splitlath in BSB for 2013

Splithlath-Redmond Aprilia have confirmed at Motorcycle Live that ex-WSB stars Jakub Smrz and Mark Aitchison have signed for a full season of racing with them in BSB, for 2013.

Aussie – Aitchison will be hoping to build on his best result of 14th, made at the Brands Hatch finale last season. After ending his partnership with the Gillini World Superbike team in May, he made his BSB debut with Splitlath at Oulton Park. Although the ex-World Supersport front-runners’ chances of decent results on the RSV4, were scuppered through injuries to various fingers on his right hand.

Dedicated Smrz fans @ Assen BSB

Despite achieving 2 pole positions and a podium in World Superbikes on the Effenbert Liberty Ducati, ‘Kuba’ Smrz was dropped by the squad in the latter part of 2012. Splitlath-Redmond drafted him in to the team as a replacement for John Laverty, to ride for the final 3 rounds. On his first outing in Assen, the Czech qualified on the front row, having never ridden the bike prior to that weekend. However, due to an array of mechanical issues, his best result was a 12th at Silverstone. Provided that these issues do not reoccur in 2013, you could well be seeing Smrz up the sharp end throughout the season. Afterall, this is a multiple World Superbike pole sitter and podium finisher…
